of the family Anatidae, the duck is the best companion of human beings. And if not, just ask Joe and Chandler in Friends series, or any child who plays with her yellow rubber ducky in the bathtub or who love to go to feed the ponds ...
But they also eat the duck! And animal is a delight! It reminds me a little pig, you eat all parts. Many people will not be used, but no longer a bird that we put in the oven whole, and also can eat their foie , their gizzards ...
So for me it is almost a religion to go a couple times a year at a small family restaurant that my family and friends affectionately call Duck.
His real name is Saint Pierre and is located on the climb up Mount Artzamendi-Mondarrain being municipal Itxassou / Itsasu in the French Basque Country (Iparralde).

is a pleasure to enjoy sunny days on the terrace under the trees and beside a small stream that continually hear the noise of the flow of water.
The name of this restaurant is, as you can imagine, their food. And here you can enjoy one of the best that you can eat roast duck ever. Not only that, but prepare a range of homemade dishes worthy of any celebration.
has nothing to do with food obviously you saw in my post on Mugaritz , but here is something quite traditional.
Of course, before raising any advise you to go there to prepare your stomach, perhaps with a walk through the woods or a white-water rafting on the Nive.
To get there, it's best to do so by the district Laxia, through the Pas de Roland Mondarrain taking direction. There follow the sign pointing to the restaurant (Saint Pierre).
Arriving there, the family will serve you very kindly and give you the option of choosing from a menu of 15 € or the 19 € (excluding drinks and coffee). What I always ask and I will describe is the length.
First we have a vegetable soup and vegetables from the garden with a pinch of pepper Espelette. We bring in soup for everyone can enjoy every time you want and I can assure you that with a single dish is often not enough.
Second, to choose between truchitas pan fried sausages and homemade pates. In summer often also accompanied by tomato season. Trout can be seen in a small tank are next to the parking where kept alive with water continuously flowing stream, to consume.  |

And finally comes the main course. As I explained I go there for the duck, but we can also eat lamb or combine the two. Notice that the lamb and eat big boy and has a strong flavor. Whatever it is you that you choose, comes with a huge supply of chips and lettuce from the garden. Enfin, surely I would ask only duck, but you can always ask that you put some lamb.

But after this banquet, think not that the thing ends there because you are mistaken. The son and husband of the lady who runs the business, are pastors and make themselves their feta cheese so I bring a large piece of cheese that you will serve you yourselves together by a delicious black cherry jam. Delicious.
And as final touch, the Basque cake, the mom, or some ice cream in summer. Of course, as usual, the dessert is also made in house (except the ice cream of course).
As will understand, after this feast is almost impossible to move let alone take the road winding back to town. So I recommend you just walk around and enjoy the sun and nature at its purest.
We had no sun this time, but it was breeding season could not resist the temptation to go and see the lambs that are next to St Pierre.
